3G
This is a generic term for third-generation cellular and data services, including 3GPP and 3GPP2.
3GPP
This is the most broadly deployed third-generation cellular and data service standard, also called W-CDMA (
www.3gpp.org)
3GPP2
This is another third-generation cellular and data service standard (www.3gpp2.org).
A/D
Analog to digital (conversion, converters).
D/A
Digital to analog (conversion, converters).
dB
Decibels - a unit of power or voltage measurement.  Power (dB) = 10 * log10(magnitude^2); Voltage (dB) = 20 * log10 (magnitude).
DSP
Digital signal processing (or digital signal processor): a method of processing digital signals to achieve a desired function.
ENOB
Effective number of bits (contrast with "Resolution"): the number of "useful" digital bits from an A/D converter (or sent to a D/A converter).
FPGA
Field-programmable gate array: a device containing lookup tables that can be configured for many high-speed logic functions, including DSP functions.
OFDM
Orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing: an efficient, multi-carrier modulation type used in the WiFi and WiMax wireless standards.
Resolution
The number of digital bits per sample delivered by an A/D converter, or to a D/A converter.
SDR
Software-defined radio: a digital radio system whose modulation type and tuning range can be changed dynamically, using software.
SNR
Signal-to-noise ratio: the desired signal's power divided by the noise power, and usually expressed in decibels (dB).
SFDR
Spur-free dynamic range: the difference (in dB) between a sine wave's signal power and the power of its largest harmonically related spur.
TIADC
Time-interleaved analog-to-digital converters: a method of time-interleaving multiple A/D converters.
W-CDMA
Wideband Code Division Multiple Access: another name for the 3GPP standards
WiFi
The 802.11a/b/g air interface standards for short-range wireless data transmission (usually over 100 m and at 54 Mbps or less).
WiMax
An emerging wireless data standard intended for medium-range applications (1 km or less) requiring 1 Mbps data rates or less.
